Young Stars Trim High Speed, 58-57, In Playoff Thriller

After being blown out 59-38 on Saturday, Young Stars subdued High Speed in an exciting Hon. Julian Fraser Save The Seed Basketball League playoff thriller, 58-57 on Sunday night in Duffs Bottom, and advanced to meet Jr. Bayside Blazers on Friday night in the Jr. Division Championships series opener. They won the series 2-1.

Pure Playaz and Bayside Blazers will meet for the senior division crown.

Elroy Bollers led Young Stars with 18 points, six rebounds, five steals and three assists. Raheem Hodge added 13 points, eight rebounds four steals and three assists while T’Quan Stoutt contributed another 10 points, four rebounds, four steals and two assists to the tally.

Ja Quan Bodkin poured in a game high 21 points for High Speed. He also had six rebounds, six steals and two assists. Kimmoy Caines grabbed a 12 points and 10 rebounds double double. He also had four steals, two blocks and two assists. Michael Stoutt dropped in another 11 points.

Caines had 17 points and eight rebounds during Saturday night’s 59-38 victory. Diorys Joseph added 16 and Javin Wattley contributed 10.

Bollers was Young Stars only scorer in double figures with 15 points, six rebounds and five steals.

Young Stars will face Jr. Bayside Blazers, who eliminated Beast Mode with a 60-38 victory on Saturday night. Stephano Paul was Jr. Bayside Blazers’ leading scorer with 14 points and four rebounds. Jiliani Leonard chipped in 13 points and Donaldson Lane, 11.

Kymaal Pancho was Beast Mode’s only player to reach double figures with 11 points.  Shaqun George contributed eight points to the stat sheet and Aaron Williams, seven.
