World Telecommunications Day Grand Open House Draws Large Numbers


TRC-Grand-Open-HouseOn Wednesday, July 30 the public came out in large numbers to participate in the Telecommunications Regulatory Commission’s (TRC) World Telecommunications Information Society Day Grand Open House celebration.  The TRC in conjunction with Lime, Digicel, CCT, Cable TV, DoIT and Telephone Services Management Unit (TSMU) showed displays depicting the history of telecommunications in the Virgin Islands.  The displays were themed: ‘From then to now, look where we’ve come.’  Many visitors were able to see a progression of history through technology.  The Minister for Communications and Works Honourable Mark Vanterpool stated, “We could not have thought of a better way to celebrate over 50 years of telecommunications in the BVI than now, because currently the Territory is celebrating 60 years of Virgin Islands Emancipation celebrations.”  The celebration included music, food, free giveaways and educational tours of telecommunications past and present.
