Premier Dr. the Hon. D. Orlando Smith announced that in early 2015 work permit fees will change in some instances and that revision of the work permit structure is ongoing.
During his one on one with the media on 25 November the BVI Leader said: “There will be some changes in the fees, and there will be a lowering of some in some cases. There will be increases in some cases. It will be done based on the job description and based on the salary structure of individuals. I cannot tell you at this particular time what it is as it is being worked on.”
Hon. Smith announced that the fee restructure is expected to be completed within the next few months. He did not give a definite date.
Minister for Natural Resources and Labour, Dr. the Hon. Kedrick Pickering while speaking at the launch of the Labour Tribunal on November 11 announced: “A new (Labour) Policy that would guide the overall functioning of labour within the country (and create) ease in the issuing in work permits. Its final drafting stage came out of the public meetings that we had early in our administration.”
