The East Wolf Pack will get their chance at the Virgin Gorda Mystics for the BVI 40+ Basketball League title on Saturday, after both advanced to the championship game following victories over the Disciples and Unity respectively.
The Wolf Pack rebounded from their loss to the Mystics with a 57-49 triumph over the Disciples in the one game playoff on Saturday night. Kerry “Breeze” Thomas who was held scoreless against the Mystics in his last outing, returned to his leading scorer role with a game high 26 points. He also has four rebounds and two assists. Terry “Federal” Turnbull added 11 points, 10 rebounds and three assists.
Melvin “Jah Mouth” Christopher dropped in an 11 points 11 rebounds double double with two steals, while Dwayne “Jack” Thomas pulled another eight boards.
JoJo Gumbs had a game high 12 points to lead the Disciples scores. He also had five rebounds. David Archer dropped in 11 points to go with seven rebounds while Jason Cameron tossed in another eight points to the tally.
In the other game, Jeff George had 20 points as the Mystics held off upset minded Unity, 68-65. He also had five rebounds and two steals. William “Ice Willy” Penn poured in 12 points and Kevin “Cracker” Stevens also had 12 points to go with seven rebounds and four assists. Hilroy “Bongo” Warner finished with eight points, five rebounds and three assists.
Tyron Tyson had a game high 20 points and 10 rebounds for Unity. Lennox Caines contributed another 19 points with three assists and three rebounds. Clifton “Mackadoo” Corum and Alford Greenaway finished with nine points respectively and Greenaway pulled nine rebounds.
The Wolf Pack vs Mystics championship game is set for 7:30 p.m. on Saturday at the Multipurpose Sports Complex in Road Town. Admission is $5.
