“I want to reassure the citizens of Carrot Bay that the Post Office will soon be available to them,” Premier, Dr. the Hon. D. Orlando Smith declared that the West End Post Office will be opening soon.
In an update to the House of the Assembly on June 13 following mention about the Post Office from First District Representative, Hon. Andrew Fahie, Hon. Smith announced that final touches are being carried out to allow the imminent opening.
“I know that this post office is being rebuilt and refurbished for some time, but it is virtually ready. The last conversation I had they were putting some security arrangements in place to have the post office open,” the Premier stated.
Word of the upcoming opening comes after questions about the delay and an announcement in October 2012 by Hon. Smith that Government suspended the project.
An announcement that the project was back on track and that the opening date was nearing was previously made by the Premier during the questions and answers segment of a December 2013 sitting of the House.
At that time Hon. Smith said: “The work on the building in question is now substantially completed and it will be opened during the first quarter of the new year (2014). The Carrot Bay Post Office will become a branch post office and as such, will provide the same services as the General Post Office in Road Town provides.”
Once open the Post Office is expected to provide services such as stamp sales, mail box and retail services etc.
