Wednesday, February 18 – Police yesterday charged Wakima Lettsome, 33, an inmate at Her Majesty’s Prison on one count of Attempted Murder, one count of being Armed with an Offensive Weapon and two counts of Assault on a Prison Officer.
The Governor signed a warrant yesterday for Lettsome’s removal from the prison so that he could be interviewed and officially charged. He has since been returned to prison. A date for his appearance in Magistrate’s Court has not been set.
Inquiries revealed that the Prison Officer was on duty making his rounds when the assault occurred on Sunday morning.
The Prison officer was treatment at Peebles Hospital for stab wounds in the incident and later discharged.
