Unbeaten Lion Heart shuts down Virgin Gorda United 2-0

Wolues and One Caribbean players battle to head the ball during an 8 goal shootout

Visiting Lion Heart stayed unbeaten on the season and improved to 3-0-1, when they shut down Virgin Gorda United, 2-0 at home on Sunday, at the Valley Recreation Grounds.

Daveian Barnum scored the opening goal in the 27th minute and Akele Campbell doubled the advantage, securing all 3 points in the 59th minute. VG United fell to 1-2-0 with the loss.

Sugar Boys stayed unbeaten in three games at, 2-0-1 and three points behind Lion Heart in the standings, after a 3-1 victory over the Panthers, who fell to 0-2-0 in Greenland. McGraw Baptiste scored in the 26th minute from the penalty spot and again in the 78th minute, while Derol Redhead had a legger in the 41st minute.

Louisnel Timothe had given the Panthers a glimmer of hope with a goal in the 63rd minute, but the home side would not be denied.

Also in Greenland, the 2-1-1 Wolues, won an eight goal shootout that began early, with One Caribbean, 5-3, as they fell to 1-2-0.  

The 86 minutes shootout began with Phil Nelson’s goal 2 minutes into the match, then Ian Chambers made it 2-0 in the 4th before Kelvin Glasgow scored making it 2-1 in the 10th minute. Carlos Septus pulled the game level at 2-2 in the 28th minute, but Calum McCarthy put Wolues back in front in the 34th and then One Caribbean’s Johari Lacey equalizer made it 3-3 in the 46th minute.

The Wolues though ultimately came out on top as Nelson scored his second of the game in the 65th minute and Paul Edwards put some icing on the cake with an 88th minute strike, to end the shootout.

League champs Islanders improved to 2-1-1 and occupy third place, just above Wolues on goal difference, after a 2-0 victory over the winless Rebels, who are now 0-3-0, in their match on Virgin Gorda. Both scores were Virgin Gorda United own goals.
