In fulfilling part of the Gospel commission, which admonishes Christians to ‘go into the entire world as a witness’, members of the Seventh-day Adventist churches of Tortola went out into various communities distributing food and monetary gifts.
For the past 2 weeks, the BVI Seventh-day Adventist (SDA) Churches have been engaged in a 4-week evangelical campaign which began on Wednesday 14th January under the theme “The Good News Gospel Explosion”. During the campaign, apart from preaching and teaching, barrels are strategically placed under the tent for members and other interested persons to bring food items and other household necessities to be distributed to needy in the community.
The campaign is led by internationally renowned guest evangelist Pastor Claudius Morgan of St. Vincent and the Grenadines. Pastor Morgan has enthusiastically been expounding the word of God nightly on the Festival Grounds under the big yellow and white tent. He is known for successfully using his personal style of incorporating singing with preaching; often being referred to as the “singing evangelist”. He is also considered one of the leading evangelists in the Inter-American Division of the SDA World Church and a member of the Evangelism Council of the General Conference of Seventh-day Adventists.
On Saturday 24th January members of the Church went in the community and distributed 36 food baskets and gifted a total of approximately $2,000 to deserving families throughout the BVI. According to the BVI SDA Community Services Area Coordinator, Mrs. Yvette Samuels, the drive was very successful. She said, “One lady was so appreciative that she broke into tears. She actually made the whole team cry”.
Mrs. Samuels further stated, “This is our mission and it is our goal to continue to touch lives one family at a time”.
In an interview with Pastor Morgan regarding the drive, he reiterated that “this is what Christianity is all about; showing people in tangible ways that we care”.
Pastor Morgan has travelled the world proclaiming the good news; from Guyana to Africa. He is the author of the book “Preaching the Good News” and is presently preparing part two of the same. He concluded the interview by saying, “If we can’t reach out and make a difference, it doesn’t make sense”.
The month-long campaign is being hosted by four pastors from the BVI – Pastors Howard Simon, Holford Brown, Sylvester Williams and Leriano Webster and they are extending an invitation to the public to come out and hear this dynamic singing evangelist as he proclaims the good news every night except Mondays and Thursdays.
According to organizers, the church will continue with the collection of food, money and other necessities for distribution before the campaign is over. Anyone wishing to contribute can contact Pastor Howard Simon at 543-3253.
