Skillful Ballers Advance In JFL After Da 3rd Unsportsmanlike Conduct

Skillful Ballers and defending champions Bayside Blazers will face off in the semis after Skillful Ballers won the last matchup 102-92

Skillful Ballers advanced to the semifinals of the Hon. Julian Fraser Save The Seed Basketball League on Friday to face defending champions Bayside Blazers, without playing a complete opening game against Da 3rd.

Referees called off the game with 6:32 left in the third quarter because of a player unsportsmanlike conduct with Skillful Ballers leading Da 3rd, 40-34, after he hustled for the ball with an opponent and broke one of his fingers. 

“They came out flat and like they know the team was an easy team to beat,” noted coach Ronnie “Gola” Simmonds. “They came to the game late, didn’t have a chance to warmup and I spoke to them about that and the started playing flat. The game was rubbing through the third quarter.” 

Bayside Blazers completed a sweep of Momentum with a 99-79 victory, after taking the opening game, 92-72. 

Aubrey Daniel was the leading scorer with 26 points. Travis Isaac followed up with 19 points, six assists, six rebounds and five steals. Hansen Donato added another 18 to the tally along with six rebounds, six assists and four steals. Kimani Stevens and Dwayne Stoutt contributed 16 and 11 points to the stat sheet respectively. 

Nicos Penn led Momentum with 20 points five assists and four steals. Jason Rhymer and Deron Smith chipped in 18 points respectively. Shamarr George dominated the boards with 17 rebounds after scoring 15 points and settling for four blocks.   

Kadeem Jones had 17 points, five rebounds and five assists in leading all 11 of 79 players who scored and contributed to their 85-77 elimination victory of former champs Splash Brothers.  

79 took the opener from Splash Brothers, 82-67.

Xavier Richards dropped in 16 points, five rebounds and five assists. Kebo Fahie added 13 and Hakeem Penn poured in 12 points and pulled seven rebounds. 

Ashield Frett had a game high 21 points to lead Splash Brothers scores. He also had six rebounds. Jamoii Dagou followed up with 20 points and seven rebounds. Juan Hatchett and Demoii Dagou added double doubles of 15 points and 16 and 12 rebounds respectively. 

League leaders Pure Playaz who lost to Bayside Blazers in the title series last year, got contributions from all 11 players in crushing Medics with a show of force, 111-60.

Romain Minott had 21 points and seven rebounds in leading six of the 11 players in double figures. Khalid Gerald poured in 19 points and seven rebounds. Bodean Samuel contributed a 15 points 10 rebounds double double. Jose Balbuena narrowly missed the coveted double with a 13 points and nine rebounds contribution. Jeron Barnes followed up with 12 while Ray Victor came up a point short of a double double with 10 points and nine rebounds. Nixon Hamilton dominated the boards by pulling down a game high 18 off the glass to go with four points.  

Daniel Findlay was Medics top scorer with his 18 points coming from six attempt beyond the arc. He also had four steals. Shaquille Lewis narrowly missed a double double with 13 points and nine rebounds. Kevis Phillips scored his 12 points off four 3-pointers. He also added six rebounds, four steals and three assists to the tally.
