Shooting Incident Classified As Attempted Murder

Friday, April 24 – Officers of the Major Crime Team are classifying last night’s shooting near the intersection of Boobay Drive and Flemming Street as an attempted murder.

One man is in hospital in stable condition with none life-threatening injuries following the incident which took place around 8pm. A number of shell casings were recovered from the scene.

Initial inquiries suggest that the victim, who had been riding a motor scooter along Boobay Drive, was headed toward Flemming Street when he heard gunfire. He then fled the area and sought refuge in a nearby supermarket.

Commissioner of Police David Morris shared his concern especially for the blatant disregard for the safety of the community at this busy time of night.

“This shooting not only caused injury to the victim and to one bystander who reported with a minor wound to the leg. It showed a complete lack of regard for the lives of the many who were in the vicinity at the time of this incident. In this light, no one with information about this incident or those involved should keep silent. We seek all the assistance we can get from the public to quickly apprehend the perpetrators of this crime.

Officers of the Major Crime Team are asking witnesses to last night’s shooting or those who may have information about possible suspects to contact the RVIPF Intelligence Unit at 468-9339. Persons can also contact the RVIPF’s access number 311.
