Saturday, March 22 – The Royal Virgin Islands Police Force confirms the arrest of Alberto Rosa De La Rosa (also known as Pi-yoyo) in relation to the killing of Riky Dennis Bautista Familia that occurred in Sea Cows Bay on the night of Friday, 16 November 2012.
The arrest took place in New York as result of communication between BVI authorities and the U.S. Department of Justice. His first court appearance was scheduled yesterday (March 21) before the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York.
Head of the RVIPF Crime Division Detective Superintendent Alexis Charles said, “We are delighted that Alberto Rosa De La Rosa has been detained. The arrest resulted from a formal request made by RVIPF Major Crime Detectives to the U.S. Department of Justice via the BVI Attorney General’s Chambers.
“An extradition process will now take place in the U.S. to bring De La Rosa back to the BVI to stand trial on manslaughter charges. As a consequence I am unable to further comment on this matter.’’
The victim’s family has been updated about the arrest.
