The H. Lavity Stoutt (HLSCC) Community College has commenced its reaffirmation/reaccreditation process which is expected to extend into this new year and ensure that the Territory’s main tertiary institution stays internationally recognized.
The commencement of the process was mentioned to legislators by the Ag. President of HLSCC Dr. Richard Georges during the deliberations of the Standing Finance Committee (SFC). Dr. Georges stated that the Chair of the Accreditation Team was expected to visit on 2 December to hold talks with stakeholders.
Georges said that the College received a list of the full accreditation team, and began communicating with Middle States Commission of Higher Education (MSCHE) on 29 November to confirm that there were no conflicts or complaints about the team that had been named.
As it relates to the general accreditation process Dr. Georges said that the process was ongoing but the visits would take place mid to late April 2020. He said he expected that at the MSCHE conference in December 2020, the College’s accreditation would be examined.
HLSCC received accreditation from the Middle States Commission on Higher Education on 25 June, 2015. This accreditation spanned a five-year cycle. Therefore, the college is seeking reaffirmation of its accreditation in the 2019 – 2020 academic year.
