A 27-member-team from Canadian utility and electrical contractor Valard will be assisting the BVI Electricity Corporation (BVIEC) in expediting the territory-wide power restoration process.
Deputy General Manager of BVI Electricity Corporation Henry Creque explained that the Valard team will be tasked with restoring systems that are not working. “They are sponsoring 27 more utility workers to come and assist us and we will place them to work on two of the distribution feeders which have not been started as yet, which will leave only one more feeder which has not been started and we should be starting on that very shortly after,” Creque mentioned.
While providing an update to the National Emergency Operations Centre (NEOC) on 6 November the Deputy General Manager of BVIEC mentioned that the help that has been provided by crews from within the region has been instrumental in the electrical restoration efforts thus far. However, he explained that the additional assistance from Valard will push things further: “We estimate that these crews on the ground so far will help us to reduce our efforts, our time to restore the whole Territory by approximately one month and we hope that with more persons coming in we would have an even further reduction.”
During his press briefing on 26 October Premier and Minister for Finance, Dr. the Hon. D. Orlando Smith lauded the progress that the BVI Electricity Corporation has made so far.
