Monday, December 15 – Police are investigating to two sudden deaths this past week, one of a female visitor to the Territory and the other of a Pilipino national who resides in the Territory.
Katherine Cranston, 54 of Oregon USA, was pronounced dead upon arrival at Peebles Hospital after experiencing difficulties while snorkeling near Monkey Point on the morning of December 9. Apparently, she was making her way back to the boat after snorkeling with her husband when she began having difficulties and began showing visible signs of distress. Virgin Islands Search and Rescue (VISAR) assisted transporting her to Tortola and then on Peebles Hospital.
On December 13, the lifeless body of Juan Rolly, 52, a Pilipino National, residing in East End, was lifted from the water near the S/V John docked in the Port Purcell area. A search was made for him in the waters surrounding the boat after his slipper was found floating in the water. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police investigations are ongoing on behalf of the Coroner’s Office.
