Police Confirm Two Firearm Incidents Over Weekend

Monday, August 1 – Officers of the Criminal Investigations Department are investigating two firearm incidents over the weekend.

In one, on Saturday evening, a bar owner reported being robbed outside his business premises in Johnsons Ghut. He stated that while on a break, he was sitting outside his premises when he was approached by a lone gunman who demanded what was in his pockets. The gunman then fled on foot with cash from the victim. He is described as dark, slim built and about 150 pounds and approximately 5’5. He was wearing dark clothing at the time of the incident.

No injuries were sustained in this incident.

In the second incident, late Sunday night, the driver of a white Suzuki SUV travelling on the eastbound lane of the Sir Francis Drake Highway reported he was being pursued and shot at by men on a scooter near the Treasure Isle Hotel. In an attempt to evade the gunmen, the driver of the Suzuki crossed and entered the westbound lane where the Premier’s vehicle was at the time travelling on the westbound lane toward Road Town. The driver took evasive action to avoid colliding into the white SUV, and collided into the Moorings fence causing extensive damage. The Premier was not at the time in the vehicle.

One person sustained a bullet wound to this hand and was treated at Peebles Hospital. No one else was injured in the incident.

Police have recovered bullet casings at the scene and investigations are continuing.

Persons who have any information regarding either of these two incidents are asked to contact the Criminal Investigation Department via the RVIPF three-digit access number 311 or the Intelligence Unit at 284-368-9339
