Pirates, Pythons stay unbeaten in Berth “Big Man” Henley league

With victories over the Reds and Elmore Stoutt High School Rams respectively, the Pirates and Pythons are the only unbeaten teams in the BVI Softball Association’s Berth “Big Man” Henley league.

Allen “Woodrow” Smith collected his third straight victory this time in relief of Nikos Penn, as the Pirates overpowered the Reds, 7-5. The Pirates’ 7 runs came from 7 hits, 3 errors and they stranded 8 base runners. The Reds had 5 runs, 4 hits, 4 errors and left 6 runners on base.

Veteran Roy “Panhandle” Hill who came on in relief of Jason “Mad” Fonseca, took the loss. Pirates’ Tramore Frazer of went 1-for-4 with a triple, a run scored and a run batted in.

Power Outage banged out 11 hits and whipped the Blue Wings 11-4. The Blue Wings runs were from 4 hits, 3 errors and they left 9 on base. Neville “Sheep” Smith came on in relief of Bryan “Power” Scatliffe for the victory, while Raymond “Mahasa” Mercer was tagged with the loss. Power Outage’s Jamarlie James was the top hitter going 3-for-4 with 2 doubles, 2 runs scored and 2 RBIs. Jeremy Penn doubled and tripled and drove in 3 in 3 plate appearances. Kelvin Faulkner was the Blue Wings’ top hitter and went 2-for-3 with a triple and a run scored.

After opening with successive losses, the Dominicanos overpowered the Blue Wings 8-1. They had 8 runs, 9 hits, 3 errors and left 5 runners on base while the Blue Wings’ run came off run 4 hits, 4 errors and left 8 runners on base. The winning pitcher was Yervis Rodriguez and the loser was Warren Brooks. Edward Vincent and Carlos Casey of Dominicanos each went 3-for-4 with a double, and 2 runs scored. Vincent also had a triple and 2 runs batted in.

In women’s play, Thea Cooke fired a 2-hitter as the unbeaten Pythons whipped the Elmore Stoutt High School Rams, 18-8. The Pythons had 12 hits, committed 1 error and left 4 runners on base. The Rams’ had 8 runs were off 2 hits, with 6 errors and 6 left on base. Javlyn Frett took the loss. Pythons’ Sheniqua Fahie had a 3-for-4 game a double, a home run, 3 runs scored and 5 RBI’s. Tafara Phillips homered in two at bats, scored twice and drove in two.

Perline Leonard tossed a one hitter as the Hawks crushed the Lady Crushers 20-1. The Hawks’ runs were off 4 hits, 1 error and they left 2 on base. Crushers had 1 run, 1 hit, 6 errors and stranded 1. Adina “Sugar Bowl” Nibbs took the loss. Hawks’ Khiayah Doward had a hit in two at bats, scored twice and had 3 runs batted. Rene Hodge went 2-for-2 with 2 runs scored and a run batted in. The Crusher’s Patricia Hodge tripled for their lone hit to drive in their only run.

The Hawks outslugged West End Warriors 16 – 9. The Hawks had a 15 hits attack, they made 2 errors and left 8 runners on base. The Warriors had 7 hits, 8 errors and stranded 9. Eleta Parker picked up the win in relief of Diana Hunt. Sarah Potter took the loss.  Hawks’ Alicia Lima was 2—for-3 with a double, 2 runs scored and 4 runs batted in. Misha Walters went 3-for-5 with a double, 5 runs scored and a run batted in.  Shanika Forbes had a homer among her 2-for-4 night, with three runs batted in.

Warriors’ Gertrude Thomas was 2-for-3 with 2 doubles and 4 RBI’s.
