After a two-year delay the report from the Tortola Pier Park audit that was commissioned by Government and carried out by KPMG is finally ready, but Premier and Minister for Finance, Dr. the Hon. D. Orlando Smith has still not received the document in hand.
In 2016 Premier and Minister for Finance, Dr. the Hon. D. Orlando Smith admitted that $82M was expended on the cruise pier project; and at that time indicated that international firm KPMG was commissioned to carry out a full audit of the expenditure.
This week Premier Smith mentioned the completion during a press conference on 1 October. He told reporters: “The audit report is completed that’s what I was informed by the persons who we asked to do it. They have received payment for the report and we/I am waiting for them to deliver it to me. As soon as it is handed over to me I would have it submitted to Cabinet.”
Back in July Hon. Smith told the House of Assembly that a confidential draft report was submitted to the BVI Ports Authority management for their review and comments, but there was an issue accessing all of the needed information.
