The 2020 staging of the Dr. Pearl I. Varlack Prayer Breakfast will be held this weekend and Premier and Minister for Finance Hon. Andrew Fahie has been invited to deliver the keynote address.
The special Breakfast is organized by the League of British Virgin Islanders which is a U.S. Virgin Islands-based non-profit organization that aims to foster the continued improvement of the Virgin Islands community through scholarship, cultural exchange and community involvement.
Following the announcement of this year’s event, President of the League of British Virgin Islanders Moleto Smith noted that the event is geared at connecting and comradery. “We strive to connect British Virgin Islanders and Belongers and persons with BVI heritage in a social and cordial atmosphere while strengthening inter-relationship between the communities of the Greater Virgin Islands.”
This year’s breakfast will be the second staging of this popular event. It will be held on March 14, at Victor’s New Hideout, in Sub Base, St. Thomas; and the Premier’s keynote address is being promoted as the highlight of the event. The League announced that Hon. Fahie’s keynote address will be under the theme of “Strengthening Our Bonds of Kinship and Community”. It was also noted that the proceeds from the event will be in aid of scholarships to the University of the Virgin Islands.
The organization’s main task in terms of community service is scholarship distribution.
Dr. Varlack was born on the sister island of Anegada to Anna and Ludwick Varlack. She was also member of the League of British Virgin Islanders, a most prominent former Educator, and Prof. Emerita; she co-authored with Dr. Norwell Harrigan a history book titled “The Virgin Islands Story”.
