Naturalised Citizens Urged To Familiarize With Territorial Symbols

The recently naturalized citizens were admonished to become familiar with the Territorial symbols during the ceremony that was held at Government House on 5 February. The admonishing was issued by Acting Premier, Minister for Health and Social Development, Hon. Ronnie Skelton.

Hon. Skelton while speaking on behalf of Premier Dr. the Hon. D. Orlando Smith who was away on business said: “Today begins a new chapter in your lives. As this chapter begins I urge you to learn the lyrics of our Territorial Song, “O Beautiful Virgin Islands”.  Proudly share your knowledge of all that makes this Territory unique — our Territorial Dish, our colors and our Territorial Dress.”

On July 24, 2012 the Territorial song and wear were selected. The song was written by siblings Ayana Hull and Kareem-Nelson Hull, and the territorial wear was designed by Kristin Frazer and Florence Phillips.

The selection of the song and dress was as a result of a motion that was moved by Education and Culture Minister Hon. Myron Walwyn.
