Mother’s Day Celebrated In Low Key

Last Sunday 10 May many countries around the world celebrated Mother’s Day but the celebrations were subdued in tone because of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. The day’s observance was low-keyed by the deadly virus as Minister for Transportation, Works and Utilities, Fifth District Representative Hon. Kye Rymer mentioned that his mother had been tested for the virus.

Hon. Rymer in a recent sitting of the House of Assembly mentioned that his mother had contracted the disease and in his Mother’s Day message the Minister gave an update on the situation: “This Mother’s Day I am delighted to celebrate with my mother. As some of you may know, she tested positive for the Coronavirus (COVID-19), but she has since retested negative and she is at home recuperating. Thanks to the Almighty God and many thanks for all the prayers, from you the residents of these Virgin Islands.”

Hon. Rymer noted that tens of thousands of lives have been lost around the world due to this deadly pandemic: “I take this moment to recognize the Mother’s lost to us as a result of the Coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic.  It has been said that Heaven lies at the feet of Mothers so let’s appreciate our mothers, call them, write to them, visit them and spoil them. Today show them that they are treasured in our lives,” he stated.

While speaking in the House of Assembly in April the Minister disclosed that his mother was in a US hospital fending off the Coronavirus.
