The Governor’s office announced that Junior Minister of Trade and Investment and Eighth District Representative, Hon. Marlon Penn represented the BVI at the CPA UK’s International Parliamentary Conference on Sustainability, Energy and Development.
The conference which was held in Westminster, London from 14 to 17 March 2016, aimed to increase knowledge and build capacity of parliamentarians and parliamentary institutions on sustainability, energy and development.
It was part of a series of major international parliamentary conferences held annually by CPA UK to explore parliamentarians’ role in economic and social development.
The goal of the meeting was to establish an informed community of best practice in parliamentary engagement with international development. In fact, organizers announced that the conference emphasised the critical role parliamentarians need to play in shaping and monitoring the energy and sustainable development agenda. The important oversight function that Parliaments must perform was especially highlighted.
The CPA UK’s International Parliamentary Conference was part of the International Parliamentary Project (IPP).
The IPP began in November 2015 with the delivery of three regional workshops in Africa, Asia and the Caribbean to examine issues of sustainable development, energy security and resource management in different regions.
