Former Sixth District Representative Omar Hodge who served his constituents for decades will be honoured with a statue and the renaming of the fishermen’s wharf that is located in Baughers Bay in his honour.
The announcement was made by current Sixth District Representative Hon. Alvera Maduro-Caines during an Opposition press conference that was held on 13 November.
Mrs. Maduro-Caines told the media that the work on the fisherman’s wharf, which is a signature Sixth District project is moving forward. “We are doing a lot of work on the Fisherman’s Wharf hopefully by February next year it would be completed. There’s still some fencing to be done and a statue of Hon. Omar Hodge would be erected somewhere on that property. We will name it Omar Hodge Fisherman’s Wharf,” the District Representative announced.
In the past Hon. Maduro-Caines had lamented that various matters were stalling the completion of the works she has planned for the Wharf. One such stalling is the dumping of derelict vehicles on the site. The Representative complained about this occurrence up to August 2018.
At that time the District Representative announced in the House of Assembly that she is ready to take actions against the persons who refuse to remove those items. She said that it had gotten to the point of action because appeals failed.
