Education Minister Finds Solution For Grade 12 Students

Minister for Education and Culture, Hon. Myron Walwyn intends to capitalize on the decrease in the number of H. Lavity Stoutt Community College (HLSCC) students this academic year, by utilizing the available space for Elmore Stoutt High School grade 12 students.

Hon Walwyn confirmed that Grade 12 of the Elmore Stoutt High School will be accommodated at the campus of HLSCC in the new school year because the additional classroom government intended to construct will not be available at that time.

In a statement issued to clarify the matter, Hon. Walwyn said: “A plan was submitted to me as to how HLSCC and the Elmore Stoutt High School will work together to ensure that Grade 12 is properly accommodated at the College.”

The Minister explained that the arrangement will not affect the students at HLSCC because the population will be smaller compared to past years: “As we are all aware, there will be no graduation from the secondary schools this year, and so the H Lavity Stoutt Community College will be undersubscribed for the upcoming academic year,” he stated.

The decrease in the College’s population as a result of the extended high school term was said to present the solution sought for the accommodation problem: “This presented the perfect opportunity for us to utilise the available space at that institution, while we work diligently to provide the additional classrooms at the Elmore Stoutt High School campus in a manner consistent with the developed masterplan for the institution.”
