Monday, April 25 – The Royal Virgin Islands Police Force is seeing the fruits of their efforts to build community partners with the seizure of yet another firearm last Friday.
Members of the community took Police to a location behind an establishment in Purcell Estate where a suspicion case was uncovered. Upon opening the case, a 9mm Glock 40 was found containing 15 rounds of ammunition.
Deputy Commissioner Alwin James considers this particular seizure significant.
“We are not only relieved to have one more weapon off the streets; we are specifically delighted that members of the public were instrumental in this find. We have to stand as one against those who would want to instill fear if we are to win this fight to keep our streets safe. It is encouraging that members of our community are joining the fight,” the DCP noted.
Police investigations will ongoing in this matter.
Prior to this find, Police seized three other firearms in less than two months all after searches were conducted. As a result Carlos Gumbs, 24, Shakoy Lavacia, 22, and Selvin Chinnery, 44 were charged with firearm possession charges. Two of the three are on remand awaiting sentencing.
