Monday, November 2 – Churches have been the target of burglars within the last month and Police are asking caretakers of these premises to be on guard and on the lookout for anything suspicious.
Three churches, two in the East End area and another in Carrot Bay have been entered illegally and an attempt to enter one church in Road Town was also reported.
This past Wednesday, another church in the Valley, Virgin Gorda was burglarized. A toaster, a wicker chair and cleaning supplies were reported missing.
Acting Commissioner of Police Alwin James noted that while churches are not normally targets for burglars, perpetrators may consider these establishments easier to enter. “We are not sure the cause of this sudden upsurge in church burglaries except to say that it may be easier to access these facilities,” he said.
Anyone with information that can assist in identifying the perpetrators can contact detectives within the Criminal Investigations Department through the RVIPF access number 311. Persons can also give that information anonymously to Crimestoppers through its Miami-based hotline number 800-TIPS (8477).
