A BVI Women’s Football team will make history Saturday, when they host Haiti at the A. O. Shirley Grounds at 4 p.m., in a Concacaf region qualifying match for the FIFA Women’s World Cup, to be staged in New Zealand and Australia.

This match comes after playing in St. Vincent and the Grenadines on Wednesday and is the first women’s home match since 2014, when the BVI hosted Anguilla and  the USVI, to mark the BVI Football Association’s 40th Anniversary formation.

The BVI lost its first matches to Cuba and Honduras in Honduras. In a statement before departing to play in St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Coach Wayne Phillip said:  “Training has been going excellent. The girls are full of confidence and looking forward to the challenge. I am sure they will give a good account of themselves and we are going out there to do well. We cannot afford to be overconfident but definitely want to play them on the front foot. In practice games the defense has looked more organized, and at the other end we have been scoring goals.”
