Boat Owners Urged To Be On Alert For Thieves


Monday, May 18 – Police are encouraging boat owners to ensure there is security around their vessels and around areas where engines are kept as there has been a rise in theft of boat parts.

Whole engines valued up to $14,000, propellers, engine parts, fueling systems and fan belts were reported stolen recently particularly from vessels parked at home and on a dry docks.

Deputy Commissioner Alwin James noted that whatever the reason is for the rise in thefts of boat parts, whether it be the upcoming Poker Run or just the arrival of the summer months, owners should make the necessary adjustments and ensure that there is proper lighting and security cameras to keep these conveyances visible.
