Auditor General Sonia Webster issued a public statement refuting what Minister for Education and Culture Hon. Myron Walwyn has said in the media as it relates to the Special Report on the Elmore Stoutt High perimeter wall.
The perimeter wall of the Elmore Stoutt High school was deemed a necessary and urgent security and safety promotion mechanism and as such was approved by Cabinet for construction. However, following various cost rumors former Governor John Duncan requested an audit of the project.
The Audit was completed with findings that blasted the manner in which the project was carried out. In fact, copies of the Special Audit Report on the Wall was furnished to the media Minister for Education, and Culture, Hon. Myron Walwyn during a press conference on 9 October.
The Special Report on the project was since tabled in the House of Assembly on 13 December. However, it appears that the Auditor General did not appreciate some of the comments that were made by Hon. Walwyn during interviews.
The Auditor General in a statement issued on 17 December announced that she found the comments the Minister made to be erroneous. “The statements made by the Minister in the interview on 284 News and elsewhere in the press are both incorrect and misleading. The contents of the report are clear. As Auditor General I stand behind the contents of the Report and I fully support the members of my staff who work on the public’s behalf to promote improved public accountability and transparency.”
