Having spent hours picking useable items of clothing from donations received, a notice was posted that one of the Dominica Relief collection points would not like to receive more out of shape items such as used underwear to send to Dominica as relief aid.
The notice was posted to the BVI Community Board after previous donations yielded items that were not appropriate for second use. The notice said: “While we are grateful for your support, we are not accepting used underwear and badly used clothing.”
In fact, it was stated that last week a great deal of time was expended disposing of these unwanted items. “The group spent hours sorting out the clothes. Between Monday and Wednesday 11 garbage bags of clothing were taken to the incinerator at Pockwood Pond,” the notice said.
Meanwhile it was announced that persons still interested in making donations to the Dominica Relief Effort Group can do so by taking their supplies to the KAD Pool Services Warehouse in Port Purcell. It was noted that someone will be there on Tuesday from 12 noon to 6 pm, Wednesday 10 am to 6 pm and on Friday 5 to 7 pm to receive the donations.
It was suggested that the items most needed are: Comforters, Sheets, Blankets, Children and Adult pampers and wipes, feminine sanitary pads, First aid kits, Flashlights, Wheelbarrows, Pickaxes, Shovels, Chain saws, Rubber boots in various sizes, Buckets and all other construction tools.
