Three Of Four Charged In Stop/Search Operation


Friday, September 11 – Three of the four men arrested in the stop/search operation yesterday morning are scheduled to appear in court this afternoon charged with firearm and drug possession offences.

All three men, Travis Gumbs, 23, of no fixed place abode, Omari Winter, 18, of no fixed place of abode and Kadeem Frett, 20, of Long Look were all charged with carrying an unlicenced firearm, two counts of unlawful possession of ammunition, unlawful possession of a control drug and unlawful possession of a control drug with intent to supply.

The fourth male in the incident is still in hospital receiving treatment and therefore has not yet been charged.

In the incident, Police stopped a vehicle in the Crablot area early yesterday morning with the four men inside. One of the four exited the vehicle with a handgun. After a command to drop the firearm, the suspect was shot. That suspect fled the area but was later apprehended and taken to Peebles Hospital for treatment. His wound is not believed to be life-threatening.

The handgun, several rounds of ammunition and a quantity of illegal drugs were recovered during the incident.
