It is hoped that the flooding nightmares that have plagued the Stone Haven area for years will finally be fixed. This expectation was announced during the 4 February sitting of the House of Assembly by Sixth District Representative, Hon. Alvera Maduro-Caines.
The announcement in this month’s House of Assembly was the third time the Representative echoed her intention to have problem fixed once and for all.
Both Stone Haven and the front of One Mart have been prone to flooding and water build-up. The issue has also been lamented by the businesses in the area that are all too often inconvenienced by the situation. With sea levels going up due to global warming this is a serious situation that needs careful and effective planning. Unfortunately there are other areas in the Territory needing similar attention.
Plans to fix the flooding predicament at Stone Haven was even mentioned by Hon. Maduro-Caines in a radio interview moments after she was declared the district winner in the 2015 general elections.
In her winning interview, Hon. Maduro-Caines announced that one of her first tasks would be to move forward with the project to remedy the Stone Haven flooding situation.
Hon. Maduro-Caines had reiterated her plans to fix the problem during the campaign period. In fact the Representative’s plan to remedy the issue was previously mentioned at a 2012 public meeting with her constituents.
At that meeting on 21 June 2012 residents were given assurance that Government will be giving the Stone Haven flooding problem priority attention.
