Friday, April 1 – Officers from the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force Major Crime Team continue their investigations into the discovery of the body of a female in the Hawk’s Nest area of Tortola.
The matter has been reported to the Coroner who has ordered an autopsy to ascertain the cause of death. The RVIPF have a number of lines of enquiry including that of missing 22-year-old Nickera Smith who was last seen on 27 January 2016.
Acting Commissioner of Police Alwin James noted that further forensic investigations will need to be carried out to satisfy the Coroner of both the identity and cause of death of the deceased woman. This will be completed by a forensic pathologist from overseas.
Police have kept the family of Nickera Smith informed of the circumstances through the Police Liaison Officer and will continue to support and provide updates as the family go through this difficult time.
