POLICE CONFIRM TWO SUDDEN DEATHS

Friday, March 21 – Police are taken witness statements in relation to two sudden deaths, one on Virgin Gorda yesterday afternoon and one on Tortola near the CSY Dock this morning.

Officers were called to the scene early this morning where the body of a male was being recovered from the waters near CSY dock. Cause of death is still to be determined. Investigations are ongoing.

Yesterday, Officers were called to the Nurse Iris O’Neal Clinic in relation to another sudden death. Investigations indicate that shortly after 3pm, a worker received an injury while at a construction site in the Coppermine area on Virgin Gorda. The deceased who was using a bladed grinder at the time indicated to his co-worker that he had sustained a wound to the throat. He was immediately transported to the Iris O’Neal Clinic when attempts to resuscitate him were unsuccessful.

The deceased was identified as Augustin Popo, 52, a native of St. Lucia and resident of the Valley, Virgin Gorda.

A postmortem was ordered by the Coroner’s Office in relation to the third sudden death this week. On Monday midday, (March 17), the motionless body of Winford Martin, 42, was found in bar in Purcell Estate. Initial inquiries indicate that the deceased, who was working in the bar the prior evening, was scheduled to close the bar. His body was discovered by a bar attendants that following morning.
