The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) cannot function! Leader of the Opposition and PAC Chairman Hon. Julian Fraser announced on Friday 22 January.
The PAC consists of Third District Representative, Hon. Julian Fraser, First District Representative, Hon. Andrew Fahie, Eight District Representative and Junior Minister, Hon. Marlon A. Penn, and Territorial At Large Representative, Junior Minister, Hon. Archibald Christian.
In a statement posted on Facebook last week, Hon. Fraser stated that the PAC is unable to carry out its functions because two members were issued other posts. “As I speak even the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) can’t function since the two Government Members are no longer eligible to serve on account of being appointed Junior Ministers.”
Hon Christian and Hon Penn, the two government representatives, on the PAC were appointed as Junior Ministers of the Government of the Virgin Islands. The instruments of appointment were presented to the Junior Ministers during an Official Swearing-In Ceremony on 16 December.
Hon. Christian holds the portfolio of Tourism and Hon. Penn holds the portfolio of Trade and Investment.
One month before the appointment of the two PAC members Hon. Fraser announced that the PAC was still planning its first meeting. In fact, Hon. Fraser stated that the Public Accounts Committee had not met since being reconstituted in July.
