Minister for Health and Social Development, Hon. Ronnie Skelton believes that in the future the newly established National Health Insurance (NHI) system may become a model for other countries.
Hon. Skelton, while speaking at the handover for the first NHI check also asked for some patience as the system moves into another phase.
“The NHI will be one of the best insurance systems for healthcare in the Virgin Islands. It might be an example for other countries to adopt. Yes we will go through our teething problems, but we are committed to solving those problems and make sure the people of the Virgin Islands get the best healthcare that they can,” the Minister stated.
The NHI registration which was scheduled to conclude on 31 January was also extended and continued this week. Meanwhile it was announced that persons in the community have been utilizing their NHI card. Earlier this month it was stated that some 33,000 persons had registered for NHI.
