Opinion based comments being mistaken for facts are instances that concern Minister for Education and Culture, Hon. Myron Walwyn.
The Minister while speaking at the launch of the BVI Youth Parliament on 2 October explained that such loose speaking furthers false opinions, and creates misconceptions in the minds of listeners.
Hon. Walwyn in noting the situation said: “Very often in our community, even amongst our most popular social commentators, we hear people opine on important matters affecting the country without being adequately seized of the facts.”
“This misinformation is then repeated by certain sections of our population, who make decisions for their lives based on what they have heard, void of the facts…We have seen the results of how such careless speech can adversely affect our social cohesion and even our economy,” he added.
