Minister Vanterpool Pleased With Restorative Work On Old Prison

MINISTER-VANTERPOOL-PLEASED-WITH-RESTORATIVE-WORK-ON-OLD-PRISONMinister for Communications and Works Honourable Mark Vanterpool accompanied by Acting Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Communications and Works Anthony McMaster, Assistant Secretary for Ministry of Education and Culture Brenda Tye-Lettsome, City Manager Janice Braithwaite-Edwards and others visited the project site at the old Her Majesty’s Prison Building on Main Street where restorative work is underway to transform the building into a prison museum.  The tour was conducted by Project Manager Captain Hugh Whistler.

Captain Whistler gave the Minister and the other officials a comprehensive tour of the old prison facilities.  He pointed out places where proposed exhibits and displays will be and gave a brief history of each room passed on the tour.

Honourable Vanterpool said that he is pleased with the works so far and he is looking forward to the completion of the project.

When completed, the prison museum will include exhibits such as death warrants, murder weapons, evidence, photographs, newspaper articles and other items of interest.  The museum will also house a gift shop and a snack bar.
