Ninth District Representative, Dr. the Hon. Hubert O’Neal announced that he has great expectations for the development of Gun Creek and the proposed visitors centre on Anegada. The Representative lobbied for those areas, as well as others in his District to benefit from the new duty-free system.
Hon. O’Neal during his contribution to the debate of the “Tourist (Duty Free Shopping System) Act, 2015” said that Gun Creek should be one of the duty-free areas in the Territory.
Dr. O’Neal noted that Virgin Gorda and Anegada have areas that can benefit from the duty-free system: “I would like to see Gun Creek developed into a high end shopping area with duty-free status. Not only there but areas such as The Baths, and the Marina in Virgin Gorda.”
“I know this Government has had discussions before about developing the Gun Creek area as a marina plus it is already designated as a port of entry. I envision Gun Creek as being a perfect area for local people to take advantage of those visitors to Virgin Gorda — those high-end visitors who have plenty in their pocket. The idea is to relieve some of that money in their pocket,” he said.
As it relates to Anegada, Dr. O’Neal announced: “I also want to point out that Anegada is a developing part of my District, and with Anegada soon to get its own visiting centre at Setting Point. I can see Anegada thriving in that way (duty-free) as well.”
