During the World Food Day celebrations that were held on 16 October Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Natural Resources and Labour, Mr. Ronald Smith-Berkeley announced that the greenhouses remain a key part of Government’s food security plan
In a speech on behalf of Deputy Premier and Minister for Natural Resources and Labour Dr. the Honourable Kedrick Pickering, Mr. Berkeley stated that with the implementation of the greenhouse technology there will be an increase in the production of short crops in the Territory.
The importance of the greenhouse technology was noted by Minister Pickering on many occasions; most recently during an address to the House of Assembly on 6 July where he announced that the effort to move the greenhouse project forward continues.
The Minister said: “Notwithstanding the present unenthusiastic chatter about the state of the green house technology we are poised to move forward in a very meaningful way with a view to having production by the end of this year.
The announcement that the greenhouse production was expected to commence by year end was made in 2014 following a meeting with IBT, the intellectual property owner of the property.
