On 5 May, a day over a week since the Prince and Princess Festival Committee launched its Gofundme account to raise funds for the reigning Prince and Princesses to represent the Territory in Bulgaria only $125 of the $19,500 goal was met.
On April 27 the Gofundme account aimed at entering Prince Jonathan Hutchinson, Princess Jae’da DeCastro of Tortola and Princess Kamia Bascombe of Virgin Gorda to Bulgaria went live and to date only five persons have contributed to the initiative.
In a message about the cause Jaynene Jno-Lewis, Chairperson of the Prince and Princess Festival Sub-Committee announced that the Committee is taking on the Prince and Princess Pageant of the World that is being held in Bulgaria from 20 – 27 June, and selected three talented individuals from the Territory to compete.
She said that the decision to participate is a positive one not only for the Territory, and Committee, but for the Prince and Princesses. However, she noted that support for the trip is shortcoming.
“Pageantry although very accepted around the world it is often been overlooked and has been neglected here in the BVI. With hopes to change the outlook and incredible benefits of pageants by sending our highly qualified participants to Bulgaria we hope to bring home the win while creating memories that will last forever!”
Ms. Jno-Lewis noted that Bulgaria is quite some distance from the BVI, but she said that the Committee is confident that the BVI Representatives have what it takes to make the Territory proud. “Giving the children hope is the mission of the Prince and Prince Committee and as we compete in the Prince and Princess World pageant we give them more than hope, we give them an opportunity to live,” she said.
