The expansion of the Terrance B. Lettsome International Runway is still high on Government’s agenda. This was confirmed on 12 January when Premier Dr. the Hon. D. Orlando Smith announced that the new direct flight to Miami is the first part of the grand air access plan.
In his address at the event to publicise the new airlift option, the Premier said: “While we continue to work tirelessly on the extension of the runway, I also pledged to provide for direct flights to and from the United States mainland from the T.B. Lettsome International Airport.”
“This is a vital and significant development in our quest for better air access to the Territory, but it is only a first step. The second step requires that we expand the TB Lettsome International Airport runway to accommodate regular flights to and from the eastern seaboard of the United States,” the Premier added.
Last October, during an update on the airport project Hon. Smith announced that Government was considering whether to self fund or enter into a public private partnership for the proposed airport expansion project.
