Junior Minister for Tourism, Hon. Archibald Christian informed the House of Assembly on 4 February that Rosewood Little Dix Bay Resort will be hosting a job fair offering affected staff members jobs in the Caribbean.
Hon. Christian announced that the Little Dix job fair is part of the resort’s commitment to do everything possible to ensure that its staff, which will be affected by an 18 months closure of the luxury resort, have another opportunity.
“I understand that they will be hosting a job fair shortly for persons who may wish to relocate to other countries in the Caribbean where Rosewood may have affiliates or associations,” Hon. Christian stated.
Junior Minister Christian did not state which Caribbean resort will take on the staff or how many positions are available. It is known that the Rosewood Caribbean brand includes — Jumby Bay in Antigua, and Rosewood Tucker’s Point in Bermuda. However, it is not clear which other affiliate or associates will be offering jobs to the Little Dix Bay staff.
Closer to home — some of the Little Dix staff will be relocated to the main island of Tortola as Hon. Christian announced since many of the resorts/hotels have indicated interest in hiring some of the LDB employees.
“Madame Speaker one of the positive things that has come out of this announcement so far [is that]I have received telephone calls from a number of resorts on Tortola already — one as recently as this morning saying that we have a number of positions available and we will be willing to take on some of the workers from Little Dix Bay resort.”
“Now we have some logistical issues to sort out with respect to boat fares and so on but those are the things that I guess will be worked on to ensure that the persons that are affected would have a smooth transition in term of perhaps relocating to Tortola,” he added.
