Slovakia has won the 2014 International Philatelic Art “St. Gabriel Prize” for best religious stamp of 2013 with a miniature sheet issued on 12 June 2013, depicting Saints Cyril and Methodius – the brothers who brought Christianity to Eastern Europe. The award ceremony took place on 28 September at the Ceramics Hall of the Fioroni Palace at Legnago, near Verona, Italy. Members of the Jury of the 2014 St. Gabriel Prize included, Vienna’s Archbishop, Cardinal Cristoph Schönborn; Trento’s Archbishop, Monsignor Luisi Bressan and Mickalak Bogdan, Samuel Fleischhacker, British Virgin Islands Philatelic Society President Dr. Giorgio Migliavacca, Annamarie Stresser and Jan Vallo.

Dr. Migliavacca commented that Slovakia issued a wonderful miniature sheet depicting the frescos from the ancient Basilica of St. Clement in Rome and the top prize was well deserved.
