Premier and Minister for Finance, Dr. the Hon. D. Orlando Smith announced that 2016 will mark five years since the Territory signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Hertfordshire County, and that the milestone will be celebrated.
During a press conference on 21 March Hon. Smith stated the MOU anniversary will be observed in coming months: “Later this year, I am looking forward to celebrating the fifth anniversary of the signing of the BVI-Hertfordshire Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation during my official visit to the UK,” the Premier said.
Meanwhile, Hon. Smith reflected that the partnership with Hertfordshire County has been beneficial to the Territory: “At local level, we have a successful partnership with the Hertfordshire County Council (HCC) that entails cooperation on sports, culture, education, youth, small and medium enterprise and other areas.
We have made a number of meaningful visits and exchanges that continue in earnest,” Hon. Smith said.
In 2011 Premier Smith, and Mr David Lloyd, Deputy Leader of Hertfordshire County Council signed the MOU which created a partnership on sports cooperation, public service engagement, commerce and and non-governmental organisations.
Through the agreement the BVI benefits from Hertfordshire Olympic relationship, which was established through the Hertfordshire Ready for Winners Partnership (HRFPW).
