Body Of Female Recovered In Jvd Identified


Monday, January 4 – Police have established the identity of the female who body was recovered in the waters off Great Harbour, Jost Van Dyke early Friday morning on New Year’s Day.

Puerto Rico national Melissa Natalia Tomas-Abadia, 29, was positively identified by her boyfriend later that morning. The two were among a party of six that arrived at Jost Van Dyke on Thursday evening by motorboat to attend New Year’s Eve festivities on the island.

The deceased was last seen swimming alone in the waters near the main dock in front of the Administration Building. She was later seen drifting unresponsively and was subsequently retrieved from the water.

A Family Liaison Officer has been assigned and investigations will continue on behalf of the Coroner’s Office.
