THREE DEFENDANTS FREED IN MCMILLEN MURDER CASE

After 15 months of waiting, three of the four American men accused of murdering 34 year old Lois McMillen of Connecticut, on January 14th, 2000, walked out of the High Court here as free men minutes after midday Thursday.

Presiding Judge Justice Kenneth Benjamin, in ruling on a no case submission, found that there was no evidence to convict Michael Spicer, Evan George (who were represented by the local firm of J.S. Archibald & Co.) and Alexander Benedetto (represented by Paul Dennis of O’Neal, Webster, O’Neal, Myers, Fletcher & Gordon). Justice Benjamin also did not entertain a lesser charge of accessory after the fact, which he said was introduced too late in the proceedings.

The 4th defendant, William Labrador, who is being represented by Bermudan Queen’s Counsel Richard Hector and St. Clair Douglas of the local firm McWelling Todman, returned to court Thursday afternoon to answer the charge of murder, as the judge over-ruled his lawyer's submission.
