BARCLAYS WELCOMES NEW MANAGER
Mr. Mark Young of London, England has taken up duties at Barclays
Bank PLC (BVI) as Senior Manager and the new Head of Corporate
Banking. He takes over from Country Manager Mr. Charles Crane,
who came to the BVI just under eight years ago from Barclays
Bank in
Ghana.
Mr. Crane leaves here shortly for Tanzania, where Barclays has
just opened up a branch. As Deputy Managing Director, he will
be helping to
develop that operation for an initial period of two years.
I found the BVI a fascinating island, extremely friendly
people; the business has been challenging and exciting and weve
seen tremendous
growth
much change in both domestic business and of course,
growth in offshore business, Mr. Crane told the Island
Sun in this exclusive
interview, as he reflected on his tenure here. He said among
the most significant achievements during his stint in the BVI
are the move to the new
Barclays headquarters two and a half years ago, the sale of Nanny
Cay after 10 years (Barclays held the mortgage) and the opening
up of a
branch in East End.
The new Manager arrived in the territory on Tuesday. He spent
the last three years in the Turks and Caicos Islands as Country
Manager. Mr.
Young, a graduate of the University of Manchester, joined the
Barclays family over 10 years ago. Since then, he has worked
in a number of big
cities in the United Kingdom, including London, Manchester and
Oxford. He has also worked in Guernsey in the Channel Islands
in the banks
offshore business there and in the Turks and Caicos Islands.
He is an Associate of the Chartered Institute of Bankers.
Mr. Young will have overall responsibility for all the operations
in the BVI - the two branches on Tortola and one on Virgin Gorda.
He will have
oversight for customer service, bank staff and ultimately its
profits.
This is a new and exciting country for me to live in and
Im looking forward to learning about the people and business
here, he told the Island
Sun, adding, the biggest challenge is taking over from
someone who is as well respected as Charles.
In terms of the future, the Managers said Barclays would continue
to improve service standards and expand delivery channels through
greater
use of technology |
