Barclays has new Corporate Manager

Mr. Richard Phillips has been appointed Corporate Manager of the local branch of Barclays Bank, effective March 26th, 2001. He replaces Deputy General Manager Nick Clarke.

Mr. Phillips comes to the BVI, for the second time, from his position as Manager of the Offshore Banking Centre in the Turks and Caicos Islands.

He has been with Barclays Bank for the past 12 years. He joined in Barbados as a Management Trainee after he graduated from the Cave Hill campus of the University of the West Indies with a degree in Management Studies.

The new Corporate Manager for the BVI has garnered extensive experience over the years, having worked at Barclays branches in a number of Caribbean islands, including Barbados, where he spent just over 2 years understanding the basics of branch banking. He also worked at the Caribbean and Bahamas Regional Head Office in Barbados for a year and a half as Credit Analyst and in the area of Administration Planning.

Following that, he was transferred to Tortola in 1993, where he spent 16 months working in the Loans Department, where he provided training to local staff and assisted the Managers.

He then went to Grenada for a short time, then to Carriacou in the Grenadines where he managed a small branch and then to Nevis, where he was Branch Manager for a year. His last position before coming to the BVI was in the Turks and Caicos Islands.
As Corporate Manager of Barclays in the BVI, he will be responsible for looking after the financial needs of borrowing and non-borrowing customers of the bank.

Mr. Phillips was born in Grenada, but grew up in Barbados. He is an Associate of the Chartered Institute of Bankers. With his wife Verna, they have one daughter, Rachelle, who is 6 years old.
