EXCO APPROVES REVISED SEACOW’S BAY PROJECT

Executive Council has granted its approval for Water Colony Development in Sea Cow’s Bay, Chief Minister the Honourable Ralph T. O’Neal announced last Thursday.

This is the company’s latest proposal to develop a marina in the area. The original proposal had to be scaled back because of concern expressed by residents of the area.

Watcol BVI 50 Ltd. has been granted a lease of the seabed to construct a marina to accommodate 25 boats (nine 60’ boats and sixteen 30’ boats); a lease of the seabed to install a bulkhead 457’ long by 10’ wide adjoining Parcel 29 Block 2635B, Sea Cow’s Bay registration section; permission to dredge the western portion of the marina to a depth of 2.5 metres or 8 feet and permission to extend the time for construction of the land development effective upon approval when the seabed lease is signed and the channel is widened.

“As a condition of the lease, Watcol BVI 50 Limited must contribute to making the channel from Sea Cow’s Bay to Hannah Bay under the bridge connecting Tortola to Nanny Cay wider and deeper to improve the flow of water circulating in Hannah Bay,” Hon. O’Neal reported of the March 28th ExCo decision.

He pointed out that this decision was made after long discussions with and due consideration of the views and suggestions of the people of Sea Cow’s Bay. He again thanked the Minister for Natural Resources and Labour, who is the Elected Representative for Sea Cow’s Bay, part of the Third District, for a job well done in successfully completing the negotiations to the satisfaction of the people of the area, the government and the investors of Water Colony Resort at Palestina.

The Chief Minister made the comments as he responded to a question posed by Leader of the Opposition Dr. the Honourable Orlando Smith, during the 22nd Sitting of the 1st Session of the 14th Legislative Council of the Virgin Islands.
