From September to now a number of residents have registered for the National Health Insurance (NHI) which commences officially in January 2016.
This week it was disclosed that the number of registrants is nearing the 10,000 mark! In fact it was stated that a special incentive was planned for the 10,000th registrant.
In a statement during the 3 September House of Assembly (two days after NHI registration began) Minister for Health and Social Development, Hon. Ronnie Skelton announced that 17 employers completed registration on the first day.
The Minister said that the NHI information system has been developed with software that offers real-time claims adjudication, checks and balances for fraud prevention, a drug formulary, International Classification of Diseases (ICD 10) diagnosis codes, and the CPT Billing Codes system, and noted online registration being used.
Additionally Hon. Skelton announced that there was a planned community-based registration drive organized for October. This drive was aimed at capturing all self-employed and unemployed individuals, and children of all ages.
